New Beats

Norway's Royksopp released their 3rd album Junior back on March 24th. I am still listening to the songs and picking out favorites.

The twosome added female vocalists/collaborators including Swedish superstar Robyn, Lykke Li, Karim Dreijer (The Knife!!! Hullo~I love them!) as well as fellow Norwegian Annell Drecker.

This album is everything I love about electronica, it is upbeat with strong vocals and thumping bass lines that make you want to move!

I love the songs "The Girl and The Robot" and "Tricky Tricky". I keep going back to these songs and find myself playing them over and over. They remind me of the old Raver Anthems that make me want to pull out my glow sticks and run go find flyers for circuit parties...but I've grown out of really I have! ;)

I give this album 4 1/2 out of 5 butterflies for making me want to dance around the house reminicing my old raver days.

Makes My Heart Flutter

Random Bits of Happy

Thursday I popped into a Bealls discount outlet looking for one thing and didn't find it but came out with a super cute 50's style bathing suit, turquoise flip flops and two hair bands for under $35

Friday I spent the day in said bathing suit laying by the pool (thanks to a friend copying their complex pool key for us) listening to tunes and reading a book. An indulgent day that I savored.

I went to my favorite used bookstore, Chamblin Bookmine, and bought the rest of a vampire series that a friend referred me to. The Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward has me hooked.

I am finally starting to get called back on jobs that I've applied for. This is a relief just because I was beginning to lose hope that jobs were really out there.

Our city's Rollerderby is the bomb. They didn't win last night but they invited the winning team to Starlite Cafe for the after party and showed the Tallahassee ladies how Jacksonville gets down. A good time was had by the girls and their fans(and friends!).

I love summer TV programming. So You Think You Can Dance is on, this show makes me hella happy! Plus Weeds and True Blood!

I've got two new albums that I'm listening to that I just got this week.

Placebo - Battle For the Sun.

They don't change their sound by much. It's dark and broody and melodic. I like that "Julien" feels like it fit in with the last album Meds. The title track is a little too repetitive for my liking but I like the beat, it just feels like half a song was written for it so they repeat the same lines over and over. I think my favorite song is "Kings of Medicine" it has the right depth and darkness to the lyrics and the music has that touch of sorrow that makes me love their sound, it's the last song on the album and leaves me wanting more. I would give it 3 1/2 out of 5 butterflies.

The other album I have been listening to is another favorite artist of mine that seems to be very hit or miss for me and I seem to like every other album.

Moby - Wait For Me.

Moby likes to experiment, and I love that about him. Sometimes he hits a homerun and othertimes he strikes out. His last album was disco and I scanned through the songs and skipped out on it big time. This new album he returned to the electronic new agey sounding vibe with the soulful gospil singing. He mixes it up like usual and some songs are just guest singers, some are duets with his raspy voice acting as back up and others are just him belting it out. It's a mellow album that I would listen to while taking a bubble bath and I give it 4 out of 5 butterflies.

Beautiful Boho Baubles

My current favorite accessories are a mish mash of items that pull this kind of boho chic feel. They sparkle with just the right amount of natural energy to them as well.

*A long beaded necklace with different shapes and sizes of natural and sparkly beads. The one I own is from and has wooden beads, blue and amber beads that have an iridescent finish and little lumpy pearls. It's perfect to wear long or to wrap around twice as a short layered necklace.
*My earrings are small hammered silver hearts but the hearts are asymmetrical, I couldn't find their likeness but these circles are close enough
*My purse is currently a Target special. Converse brand dark gray hobo style with a heavy twisted handle. I love the handle and am a little crushed that the zipper to the small front pocket broke yesterday. Time to find a new bag. I wish I could use the handle on another bag. It's the best handle ever.
*For shoes I've been wearing a yellow wedge with cutouts. Comfy and cute and yellow complements a lot of summer color schemes.
*My sunglasses are always on the funky side. I love finding them at TJ Maxx or Marshalls because even with a sunglasses case I am still terribly hard on sunglasses and end up scratching or breaking them. This way I get funky glasses for low prices and am not as crushed as if I spent a fortune on designer shades.
*My hair is cut shorter for the summertime and so I am using headbands and hairpins to hold it out of my eyes during the day. Curly hair likes to curl toward my contact wearing eyes no matter how hard I try. So a peacock feather clip is currently my favorite fashion accessory. Tres' Chic.

Also not mentioned but important for peep toe shoe season is the pedicure. I've been keeping a dark deep purple that is almost mistaken for black. It's an OPI shade that is a few seasons old but I keep going back to it because it's so versatile.

On my fingers is a clear sparkly silver also an OPI shade. It's a top coat. I like using it because it keeps my fingernails covered but light.

Little details and accessories can make even a boring outfit pop.

A Direction

The direction I am taking my blog:

  • Butterflies - a forever love. They lead me through life and I find them when things are tough and I need a reminder to keep it light and airy, one will sweep past me and remind me that life should be whimsical and free. I consider the butterfly part of the blog to be the ins and outs of my life and the spiritual side of things.
  • Books - I've been reading passionately since I was 4. I would always try to squeak by just one extra book at bedtime, or 3 more books to bring home from the library because I couldn't make up my mind. I read Little Women to my Mom at 5 (it was a simplified version, but still had me hooked). I devoured books then and still to this day devour books. Mom used them as bargaining tools to get me to do things I didn't want to do.
  • Beats - Music is the soundtrack to our lives. I love to turn on music and get a task done. It motivates me to move more, smile more and love more.
  • Baubles - Where would I be without accessories? The extras in life. The shoes, earrings, hair clips, hobo bags and MAKEUP. It makes me sparkle and adds the touches that make me ME.
So I plan on
* a weekly music review,
* a bi-monthly book review,
* random updates on accessory & makeup finds, nature as it occurs to me, spiritual Neo-Pagan updates as that is what defines me in the spiritual realm (kept light and open as I am believer that if your religion makes you happy and brings you light then it is the right religion for you!), News that relates to any of the above, and last but not least "Things that Make My Heart Flutter" (anything that brings the happy to that degree can get a post!).

So welcome to Butterflies, Books, Beats & Baubles

B4 you go xoxo.
